Braised Beef Brisket with Lemon Grass and Tomato Sauce (香茅茄汁炆牛腩)


This is one of the most popular dishes in Vietnamese Cuisine. Usually serves with Vietnamese Pho Noodles, it also goes well with steamed rice.

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg Beef Brisket

  • 3 Diced Tomatoes

  • 1 ½ Cup Ketchup

  • 1 Carrot

  • 2 Dried Star Aniseed

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 3 Bay Leaves

  • 3 Lemon Grass

  • 5 tbsp Fish Sauce

  • ¼ Cup of Rock Sugar



Preparations:

1. In a medium pot filled with water. Bring water to boil, add beef brisket. Bring it to boil. Let it simmer for 3 minutes. Drain water from beef brisket. Set aside.

2. In a sauce pan, add oil. Sauté carrot. Set aside.

3. In a pot, added oil. Sauté diced tomatoes.

4. Add beef brisket and fish sauce.

5. Add ketchup, star aniseed, bay leave, salt, rock sugar and lemon grass.

6. Add water, enough to cover the beef brisket. Let braised for 45 minutes.

7. Add carrot, braised for another 15 minutes.
